Built Under Pressure

The pain I once carried was from being sexually assaulted. People couldn’t see it from the outside because of my bright personality, but I remember the nights with panic attacks, breathlessness, and tears, not understanding why all of a sudden I couldn’t control my racing heart and mind. These moments, although not often, always occurred when I was alone - a reminder that I couldn’t run away from my pain forever.

When life treats you harshly, you understand that you’ve lived more life than most people. That burden made me feel even more isolated. But when I finally gave my pain a voice and let myself listen, my brain changed from running to letting go. Running put time and distance between the panic attacks; letting go freed me from them.

So, when I said I remembered those nights vividly, that was the truth. I remember the motions of it but no longer the feeling. How did I let go? Training became my place of peace to retrain my mind and nervous system. As I began to understand my own body pains from scoliosis after a car accident, I was able to reapply the same lessons to the other pains in my life.

How to Transform Your Pain into Purpose

1. Get Expert Guidance

If you’re experiencing PTSD you may have an overactive sympathetic nervous system, which releases the stress hormone to fight or flight. This overactive state lowers your tolerance for stress. It takes less stress to feel unmanageable or trigger a huge response - crying, fighting or running away.

This is the reason why it’s harder for you to break free of a negative emotional / mental cycle or a lifestyle. This is a huge factor to you feeling “stuck” in the choices you’re making in life.

Training is a natural way to restore resilience to your body and rewire your nervous system. Studies show that at least 90 minutes of exercise per week has the same effects as antidepressants.

2. Understand Your PTSD

Understanding where you are today is the first step to a better tomorrow.

Here are some questions to ask yourself:

Have you experienced trauma?

You have if you’ve experienced or witnessed a traumatic event like:

  • abuse

  • serious fights

  • sexual assault

  • life threatening illness or injury

  • combat/war

  • natural disaster

Are you experiencing PTSD?

According to APA, American Psychiatric Association, some symptoms include:

  • irritability & rage

  • anxiety

  • recurrent & intrusive flashbacks

  • avoiding triggers

  • nightmares

  • panic attacks

  • trouble with memory

  • difficulty making decisions

  • lack of motivation

3. Start Your Journey

The first step in walking into a new lifestyle is knowing that YOU CAN. The hardest part is making a different choice: the choice to go for a walk instead of watching tv, the choice to meditate instead of feeling sorry for yourself, the choice to help restore your nervous system into the sense that “YOU CAN” be better.

Transform Your Life with Drip Training

Personal Training for PTSD

At Drip Training, we offer specialized virtual personal training for those with PTSD. Our programs not only help you achieve your fitness goals but also use targeted intensities to address PTSD triggers.

The Drip Training Approach:

Strength is not bought, it’s built. Following these core training principles will unlock the healthiest, most resilient version of yourself:

  • Strength & Conditioning: Building your muscular strength and cardiovascular health boosts neurochemicals like serotonin, which aid in healing depression and anxiety.

  • Breath Training: The way you breathe directly influences your state of mind, engaging either the parasympathetic "relaxed" system or the sympathetic "fight or flight" response. By retraining your breath during intense training, you will gain control not only while lifting physical weight but also under the pressures of life.

  • Mind-body Connection: Strengthening this connection will reveal how your body responds to stress, letting you to recognize trigger points in your body, and ultimately manage your reactions to external triggers with greater control.
